E-scooters and other electric micromobility devices are increasingly common ways for people to get around. As their use grows, the Government of Yukon wants to better understand Yukoners’ experiences, concerns and priorities related to their safe use.

Recent public concerns about e-scooter safety have raised questions about whether further government action is needed. This initial engagement will gather broad public input to help determine if next steps are needed and what they could look like.

Electric mobility devices

Electric micromobility devices are small, electrically powered vehicles used for shorter trips. They include:

  • e-scooters;
  • hoverboards;
  • electric unicycles;
  • electric skateboards; and
  • other similar electric micromobility devices.

Different laws and bylaws may apply depending on the type of vehicle and where it is used.

Who does what

  • Government of Yukon

    The Yukon’s current Motor Vehicles Act addresses some types of vehicles, including electric power-assisted cycles, but does not regulate e-scooters as a distinct vehicle type.

    The Government of Yukon is developing regulations under the Traffic Safety Act. This engagement will gather broad public input to help inform consideration of any future rules for electric micromobility devices.

    It does not propose specific rules or assume what any future regulations or other next steps will include.

What we're asking

We want to hear about:

  • your experience with e-scooters and other electric micromobility devices;
  • your concerns and priorities related to their use;
  • whether you think further Government of Yukon action is needed; and
  • what types of action, if any, the government should consider.

No decisions have been made about whether further action is needed or what it could include.

In this engagement, we’re focused on possible Government of Yukon action. It is not a review of the City of Whitehorse’s bylaw.

How your input will be used

Your feedback will be considered alongside other information as the Government of Yukon decides whether any next steps are needed. We'll publish a summary of what we heard and explain how the feedback was considered.

How to participate

You can participate whether or not you use these devices. Check out the next page to provide your feedback. The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete, and must be submitted by November 30, 2026.
