How the appeal court system works in the Yukon

The Yukon Court of Appeal hears appeals of decisions made by:

  • the Territorial Court of Yukon; and
  • the Supreme Court of Yukon.

1. To appeal a decision, one must provide a Notice of Appeal within 30 days of the decision being issued, unless:

  • the law says otherwise; or
  • the court makes an order.

2. Documents are filed and then shared between the parties to the appeal:

  • within timelines set in the Rules of Court; and
  • under the supervision of the Registrar.

3. The Registrar will schedule the following before a judge or a panel of judges:

  • any initial applications;
  • the appeal; or
  • both.

4. The Court of Appeal of Yukon will hear the case.
